Habitat: Rare and local on upper portion of extremely steep, north-facing slope of 40-foot riverbank terrace. Under patchy canopy of Pinus resinosa, P. banksiana, Picea glauca, Abies balsamea, and Betula papyrifera. Scattered Picea glauca and Abies balsamea in understory. Sandy soil. Small patch rooted in old decayed Betula papyrifera stump/bole.
