Habitat: Rolling forested moraine. Uncommon and local. Small loose patches of cespitose plants on exposed muck and peat mats floating in shallow water (~3 feet deep). In full sun. Associated species include Eleocharis ovata, Carex crawfordii, Dulichium arundinaceum, Juncus brevicaudatus, Glyceria borealis, Bidens tripartita, Typha x glauca, Nymphaea odorata, Utricularia vulgaris, U. minor, Brasenia schreberi.
