Habitat: Strongly-rolling forested terrain. Uncommon in wet hardwood forest dominated by Fraxinus nigra, with scattered Abies balsamea, Betula papyrifera, B. alleghaniensis, and Ulmus americana. Open understory. Moist shallow organic over sandy-loam. ~Dozen plants in Bryales mosses on hummocks. Additional associates include Rubus pubescens, Clintonia borealis, Mitella nuda, Streptopus roseus, Circaea alpina, Aster macrophyllus, Phegopteris connectilis, Gymnocarpium dryopteris, Osmunda cinnamomea, Parthenocissus inse
