Habitat: Local in alluvial mesic hardwood forest in narrow riverbend. Patchy to interrupted canopy of Tilia americana and Quercus macrocarpa, with occasional Fraxinus nigra and Populus grandidentata. Patchy to dense understory dominated by Corylus cornuta, with occasional Ostrya virginiana and Fraxinus nigra. Sandy silt-loam over sand, on terrace 6-8 feet above the river. Blue ray flowers. Associates include Festuca subverticillata, Brachyelytrum erectum, Carex pensylvanica, Desmodium glutinosum, Amphicarpaea bracte
