Habitat: Rolling drumlin plain. Local, occasional in small meadow. Forms loose clumps in fairly shallow moist peat over sand. Full sun. Associated species include Polygala senega, Krigia biflora, Sisyrinchium montanum, Zizia aurea, Cirsium muticum, Pedicularis canadensis, Equisetum arvense, Solidago gigantea, Castilleja coccinea, Senecio aureus, Fragaria virginiana, Trifolium pratense, Populus balsamifera, Salix petiolaris, S. bebbiana, S. discolor, Poa pratensis, Phleum pratense, Phalaris arundinacea.
