Habitat: Occasional locally on extremely steep, 10- to 20-foot, east-facing slope forming the lakeshore here. Old growth mesic hardwood forest dominated by large Tilia americana and Acer saccharum. Scattered A. saccharum and Prunus virginiana in understory. Dark loamy/silty soil. Small patches. Associates include Oryzopsis racemosa, Carex peckii, C. deweyana, C. pensylvanica, Aquilegia canadensis, Cystopteris tenuis, Solidago flexicaulis, Maianthemum canadense, Campanula rotundifolia, Hydrophyllum virginianum.
