Habitat: Level outwash plain. Rare in jack pine woodland. Patchy to interrupted canopy of Pinus banksiana. Patchy understory of Corylus americana, C. cornuta, Quercus macrocarpa, Salix humilis, and Prunus virginiana. Sandy soil. Thick Pleurozium schreberi carpets. Additional associates include Carex pensylvanica, C. siccata, Andropogon gerardii, Poa pratensis, Oryzopsis pungens, Lathyrus venosus, Campanula rotundifolia, Galium boreale, Maianthemum canadense, Chimaphila umbellata, Rubus strigosus, Vaccinium angustifo
