Habitat: On sandy outwash plain. Uncommon and local in narrow strip of woodland dominated by mature Pinus banksiana. Open understory. On gentle south-facing slope between creekside wetland and recently logged (clear-cut) uplands. Sandy soil; in carpets of Pleurozium schreberi. Full sun. Ground layer dominated by Andropogon gerardii.
