Habitat: Gently-rolling drumlin plain. Local in conifer swamp in fairly extensive inter-drumlin peatland complex. Occasional in transitional area near margin of this wetland; transition is from Larix laricina (mostly dead) to Alnus incana. Saturated peat, sometimes inundated by shallow water. Full sun to partial shade. Forming dense tall hummocks. Associated species include Calamagrostis canadensis, Carex stricta, C. lacustris, Impatiens capensis, Galium asprellum, Caltha palustris, Potentilla palustris, Thelypteris
