Habitat: On quite steep northwest-facing slope of a 15-foot high sandy terrace which rises above the mouth of a backwater channel. Narrow strip of mesic hardwood forest on the slope (dry woodland atop terrace). Interrupted canopy of Tilia americana and Quercus macrocarpa, with quite dense understory of Ostrya virginiana. Often rooted in moss mats. Associates include Carex peckii, Oryzopsis racemosa, Arenaria lateriflora, Galium boreale, Equisetum arvense, Anemone quinquefolia, Lathyrus ochrol
