Habitat: Local in oak woodland on slopes of large granite outcrop rising 70 feet above the river. Partial to full shade of open-grown Quercus macrocarpa and scattered Tilia americana. Loose clumps aggregated in fairly large, dense patches on moderately steep, lower, west-facing slope. Shallow loamy soil over bedrock. Associates include Corydalis sempervirens, Heuchera richardsonii, Campanula rotundifolia, Desmodium glutinosum, Parietaria pensylvanica, Parthenocissus inserta, Vitis riparia, Celastrus scandens, Corylu
