Habitat: Rolling forested drumlin plain. Uncommon and local in mature mesic hardwood forest on gentle, southwest-facing, lower slope of 50-foot drumlin. Patchy canopy (due to windthrow) here composed of Abies balsamea, Populus tremuloides, Betula papyrifera, and Ulmus americana. Loamy soil, slightly more moisture here than adjacent slope.
