Habitat: Strongly-rolling forested moraine. Local in mature white cedar swamp. Large patch in area of dense shade. Patchy canopy of large Thuja occidentalis, and dense understory of Abies balsamea. Horizontal stems running along the surface of the saturated peat, beneath the carpets of Sphagnum spp. and feathermosses. Associates include Clintonia borealis, Pyrola secunda, Cornus canadensis, Coptis groenlandica, Equisetum scirpoides, Corallorhiza trifida, Trientalis borealis, Ledum groenlandicum, Gaultheria hispidula
