Habitat: Local, occasional in degraded sand prairie remnant in ravine. Moderately steep, 25-foot, west-facing slope. Full sun. Loosely cespitose plants in deep sandy soil of ancient Mississippi River outwash terrace. Associated species include Poa pratensis, Koeleria macrantha, Andropogon gerardii, Stipa spartea, Carex duriuscula, Ambrosia coronopifolia, Physalis heterophylla, Verbascum thapsus, Penstemon grandiflorus, Selaginella rupestris, Artemisia frigida, Amorpha canescens.
