Habitat:
In forest with Quercus macropcarpa. Subcanopy interrupted with Carya cordiformis, Prunus serotina, Tilia americana. Associates include Rhamnus cathartica, Ribes spp., Zanthoxylum americanum. Patchy ground layer with Desmodium glutinosum, Lithospermum latifolium, Thalictrum, Pyrola elliptica, Viola canadense, Circea lutetiana, Geum canadense, and Asarum canadense.
