Habitat: floodplain terrace forest. Under a canopy of Celtis occidentalis, Tilia americana, Acer saccharinum, Acer negundo. Associates include: Isopyrum bitternatum, Laportea canadensis, Hydrophyllum virginianum, Arisaema dracontium, Viola pubescens, Viola sororia, Geum canadense, Sanicula sp., Rudbeckia laciniata, Parthenocisus sp., Asarum canadense, Cryptotania canadensis, Mertensia virginica.
