Habitat: In a mesic aspen-birch and wet-mesic aspen-fir forest complex. Along gently trickling drainage strewn with boulders. Substrate of mucky mineral soil. Growing under partial shade in boulder cracks near low-flowing water. Associates: Ulmus americana, Aralia racemosa, Aralia nudicaulis, Athyrium filix-femina var. angustum, Cirsium arvense, Lycopus americanus, Parthenocissus vitacea, Matteuccia struthiopteris var. pensylvanica, Rhamnus alnifolia, Viburnum trilobum, Mitella nuda, Circaea alpina var. alpina, and Impatiens capensis.
Description: Localized population. Flowering individuals.
