Habitat: Fairly rugged forested moraine ... on lower portion of steep, 50-foot, north-facing slope ... Partial shade under patchy canopy of Pinus strobus, Picea glauca, Abies balsamea, and Betula papyrifera. Understory of Corylus cornuta, Acer spicatum, Abies balsamea, and Cornus rugosa. Cobbly sandy soil with moderate needle duff. Associates include Equisetum sicrpoides, Rubus pubescens, Mitella nuda, Cornus canadensis, Maianthemum canadense, Aralia nudicaulis, Streptopus roseus, Viola incognita, Aster macrophyllus.
