Habitat: Rolling wooded terrain ; often forming dominant cover in boggy poor fen in fairly long-narrow basin. Wet. spongy peat substrate with continuous Sphagnum carpet. full sun. Associates include Carex utriculata, Chamaedaphne calyculata, Spiraea tomentosa, Vaccinium oxycoccus, Andromeda glaucophylla, Drosera rotundifolia, Sarracenia purpurea.
