Habitat: Gently-rolling sandy terrain ... wetland complex ... In settings ranging from black spruce (and tamarack) swamp, to poor fen / scrub conifer swamp, to bog birch shrub fen. Mostly in full sun to partial shade ... in carpets of Sphagnum spp. and other mosses that cover the saturated peat substrate. Associated species include Carex paupercula, C. limosa, C. lasiocarpa, Eriophorum vaginatum, E. angustifolium, Smilacina trifolia, Chamaedaphne calyculata, Vaccinium angustifolium, V. oxycoccus, Andromeda glaucophylla, Ledum groenlandicum, Betula glandulifera.
