Locally common is several locations. Plants in bare sandy soils of Pine Is. beach ridge. At edge of access road and in pine woodland clearcut, espec. near burned slash piles.
Primary assoc is Conyza canadensis. Also: Betula papyrifera sprouts, Aralia nudicaulis, Dicanthelium sp., Pteridium aquilinum, Aralia hispida, Corydalis sempervirens.
