Habitat: Rather strongly-rolling terrain ... In remnant patches of dry prairie in portion of landfill not previously mined for sand / gravel, and also in areas of open sand recovering from past mining. Sandy soil. Full sun. Associated species incude Schizachrium scoparium, Andropogon gerardii, Poa compressa, Sorghastrum nutans, Cenchrus longispinus, Cyperus schweinitzii, C. lupulinus, Salidago nemoralis, S. rigida, Campanula rotundifolia, Artemisia campestris, A. ludoviciana, Conyza canadensis, Lechea intermedia, Euphorbia glyptosperma, Rhus glabra, Toxicodenron rydbergii.
