Habitat: In mesic sandy soil and full shade. Mature oak-aspen forest Dominated by Quercus alba and Q. ellipsoidalis. Associated with Dryopteris carthusiana, Pteridium aquilinum var. latiusculum, Athyrium angustum, Adiantum pedatum.
Description: Common and abundant in large clones up to 30 meters acoss.
