Habitat: On a steep SE-facing bluff. An open woodland with scattered trees of short stature. In thin dry soil over bedrock. Associated with Quercus ellipsoidalis, Q. macrocarpa, Prunus pensylvanica, P. nigra.
Description: A clonal shrub with 20-30 stems, each ca 1.5 m tall, and 0.75 cm dia. Bark gray, smooth. Ovaries densely hairy. Leaves green (not bronze).
