Habitat: Level to gently rolling forested terrain ... in wet-mesic hardwood forest. Patchy canopy of Populus tremuloides and P. balsamifera. Patchy understory of Populus tremuloides, Fraxinus nigra, Ulmus americana, Cornus stolonifera, and Salix bebbiana. Moist loamy soil. Partial shade. Additional associates: Carex gracillima, C. brunnescens, Calamagrostis canadensis, Poa palustris, Circaea lutetiana, Prunella vulgaris, Cicuta maculata, Campanula aparinoides, Galium asprellum, Platanthera psycodes, Rudbeckia laciniata, Impatiens capensis, Anemone canadensis, Cirsium muticum, Rubus strigosus, Viburnum lentago, V. trilobum.
