Locality: United States, Minnesota, Lake, Along Ninemile Creek in rugged bedrock terrain 3/4-mile north-northeast of Cramer, 11 miles northwest of Finland; just east of County Road 7, at the western end of the Erie/LTV mining railroad tunnel. SW1/4 of SE1/4 of NW1/4 Sec. 3, Finland State Forest

Habitat: Local in a large gravel pit. Occasional in moist to very wet gravelly muck associated with shallow water-filled depressions, in the abandoned (southern) portion of the gravel pit, beneath a power line. Forming clumps. Plants essentially sterile; seeds deformed (four other Juncus species here with properly formed seeds). Flowers (mature capsules) with three stamens. Full sun.

Associated Taxa: Associates include Juncus pelocarpus, J. nodosus, J. brevicaudatus, J. alpinoarticulatus, Eleocharis pauciflora, Scirpus acutus, Carex cryptolepis, Agrostis scabra.
