Habitat: Rare and local on the south bank of the creek. Several plants growing amongst moss-covered boulders ~4 feet above the creek at the base of a steep, 10-foot, north-facing slope. Sparse canopy of Fraxinus nigra and Pinus strobus. Dense understory of Acer spicatum. Full shade. Fleshy reddish-orange fruits.
Associated Species: Additional associates include Athyrium angustum, Thelypteris phegopteris, Prenanthes alba, Rubus pubescens, Asarum canadense, Aster macrophyllus, Carex pedunculata.
