Habitat:
Local in rich hardwood-conifer swamp dominated by Fraxinus nigra, with occasional Thuja occidentalis, Betula papyrifera, B. allegheniensis, and Abies balsamea. Understory of Abies balsamea and Alnus incana. Small patch of ~a dozen plants in moist to wet organic substrate.

Associates include Onoclea sensibilis, Osmunda cinnamomea, Dryopteris cristata, Mitella nuda, Lycopus uniflorus, Rubus pubescens, Ribes triste, Calamagrostis canadensis.
