Habitat:
Frequent in bedrock outcrop complex on the crest of a 150-foot ridge. Several dozen plants here in shallow soil over basalt. Full sun to partial shade of small Picea glauca, Betula papyrifera, and Populus tremuloides in a rather extensive bedrock shrubland. Shrubs, to 6 feet tall. Pubescence variable, moderate to dense.
Associated Species:
Associates include Amelanchier spp., Rubus strigosus, Diervilla lonicera, Vaccinium myrtilloides, Arctostaphylos uva-ursi, Agrostis scabra, A. alba, Danthonia spicata, Achillea millefolium, Antennaria neglecta, Cladina spp. Also in this habitat here is Rhus glabra, but seemingly in a subtly different niche (not a direct associate).
