Locally common in shallow water. Substrate is rocky sand. Growing in water up to ~2 feet deep. Inflorescences (flowering stems) held erect, the upper 1-3 inches emergent.
Associated species include Lobelia dortmanna, Isoetes echinospora, I. lacustris.
