Habitat: Locally frequent in the bed of a dry side channel (old oxbow). Gravelly boulder-strewn substrate in habitat that is flooded and scoured during spring runoff and other high water events. Mostly in full sun. Ray flowers lacking. Larger plants to 3 feet tall and many-branched.
Associated Species: Associates include Populus balsamifera seedlings, Salix lucida, Persicaria sagittata, Eupatorium maculatum, Lotus corniculatus, Prenanthes alba, Lycopus uniflorus, Plantago major, Aster umbellatus, Agrostis stolonifera, A. scabra, Lolium perenne, Echinochloa muricata.
