Habitat:
Infrequent and local, several small patches encountered on 10- to 30-foot, north-facing, mesic basaltic cliff. Growing in moss mats in crevices and on ledges of the little-fractured and quite sparsely vegetated rock face. Shaded by Betula papyrifera and Acer rubrum growing above and below the cliff.
