Habitat: Infrequent in old growth northern sugar maple-basswood forest dominated by large Acer saccharum and Tilia americana, with occasional Betula alleghaniensis and Thuja occidentalis, and rare Picea glauca. Understory and ground layer dominated by Acer saccharum. Mesic, rocky, loamy soil. Level to gently-sloping area
Associated Species: Associates include Streptopus roseus, Viola pubescens, Aralia nudicaulis, Clintonia borealis, Carex pedunculata, Trientalis borealis.
