Habitat:
Infrequent in shallow soil over exposed diabase on crest and upper ledges of a 150-foot south-facing cliff, and in talus and small rock rubble on the steep slope adjacent to the cliff. Full sun on cliff ledges and cliff-top rock outcrop settings; Partial shade beneath a short and patchy canopy of Betula papyrifera, in scrubby woodland and outcrop shrubland settings.
