Habitat: Infrequent in northern maple-basswood forest. Canopy dominated by maturing to mature Acer saccharum and Tilia americana, with occasional Quercus rubra, and uncommon Betula allegheniensis and B. papyrifera. Understory of A. saccharum and Ostrya virginiana. Mesic rocky loamy soil.
Associated Species: Associates include Viola pubescens, Oryzopsis asperifolia, Trientalis borealis, Polygonatum pubescens, Uvularia sessilifolia, Carex pedunculata, Aster macrophyllus, Maianthemum canadense, Athyrium angustum, Lonicera canadensis.
