Habitat: Infrequent in old growth maple-basswood forest dominated by Acer saccharum and Tilia americana, with occasional Quercus rubra, Acer rubrum, Picea glauca, Betula allegheniensis. Understory of Acer saccharum and Ostrya virginiana. Level to gradual slopes. Rocky loamy soil.
Associated Species: Associates include Viola pubescens, Polygonatum pubescens, Streptopus roseus, Osmorhiza claytonii, Maianthemum canadense, Uvularia grandiflora, Huperzia lucidula, Carex pedunculata, C. deweyana, C. pensylvanica.
