Habitat:
Uncommon and local in mature mesic hardwood forest atop 150-foot ridge. Canopy dominated locally by Acer saccharum and Quercus rubra. Understory of Acer saccharum and Ostrya virginiana. On gentle south-facing slope above the crest of the ridge.

Additional associates include Carex pensylvanica, Uvularia sessilifolia, Maianthemum canadense, Aster macrophyllus, Aralia nudicaulis.
