Habitat:
Occasional to frequent on a 30- to 80-foot, northwest-facing, mesic basalt cliff. On mossy ledges and in crevices, mostly on the somewhat more moist lower third of the cliff face. Often partially shaded by Betula cordifolia, B. papyrifera, Thuja occidentalis, Alnus viridis ssp. crispa, and Sorbus decora. Hundreds of clumps along ~1/3-mile of cliff face. Plants yellow colored.
