Habitat: Infrequent to occasional in 200+ acres of northern maple-basswood forest (much of which is old growth). Canopy dominated by often large Tilia americana and Acer saccharum, with scattered Betula allegheniensis. Understory dominated by Acer saccharum. Level to moderately steeply-sloping areas. Rocky loamy soil.
Associated Species: Associates include Uvularia sessilifolia, U. grandiflora, Viola pubescens, Solidago flexicaulis, Osmorhiza claytonii, Arisaema triphyllum, Asarum canadense, Caulophyllum thalictroides, Gymnocarpium dryopteris, Athyrium angustum, Adiantum pedatum, Milium effusum.
