Habitat: Occasional to locally abundant on the mid-slope of an extremely steep, 300-foot, southwest-facing bluff. Dry-mesic woodland (overgrown prairie / oak savanna) with a fairly dense canopy dominated by Juniperus virginiana, with scattered Tilia americana, Quercus macrocarpa, Celtis occidentalis, and Ulmus rubra. Forming patches in dry rocky silt (dolomitic colluvium) downslope from dolomite cliffs.
Associated Species: Associates include Parthenocissus inserta, Aralia nudicaulis, Phryma leptostachya, Rhamnus cathartica, Carya cordiformis.
