Locality: United States, Minnesota, Carlton, Along the St. Louis River immediately below the Thomson dam, between the towns of Carlton and Thomson; between the dam and Highway 210. E1/2 of SE1/4 of SE1/4 Sec. 6, W1/2 of SW1/4 of SW1/4 Sec. 5

Verbatim Coordinates: T048N R16W sec06

Habitat: Locally frequent on the middle portion of a 30- to 40-foot, north-facing, mesic greywacke cliff rising from the river bed. Along mossy crevices and in small mossy depressions on the much pitted, vertical to steeply-sloping rock face. ~100 small yellow-colored clumps. Partial shade due to the north aspect of the cliff, and from Thuja occidentalis, Pinus strobus, and P. resinosa growing atop the cliff.

Associated Taxa: Additional associates include Huperzia selago, Dryopteris fragrans, Woodsia ilvensis, Aquilegia canadensis, Polypodium virginianum, Galium boreale, Prenanthes alba, Agrostis scabra, Vaccinium angustifolium, Alnus viridis.
