Habitat:
Local, occasional on the middle portion of a 30- to 40-foot, north-facing, mesic greywacke cliff rising from the river bed. Along mossy crevices and in small mossy depressions on the much pitted, vertical to steeply-sloping rock face. Shaded partially by the north aspect of the cliff and by Thuja occidentalis, Pinus strobus, and P. resinosa atop the cliff. Several dozen yellowish-green clumps here.

Associates include Thuja occidentalis seedlings, Huperzia josephbeitelii, Dryopteris fragrans, Woodsia ilvensis, Polypodium virginianum, Galium boreale, Prenanthes alba, Aquilegia canadensis, Agrostis scabra, Vaccinium angustifolium, Alnus viridis.
