Description:
Natives in Leticia area say ripe fruit is consumed by pajuil, Nothocrumrumutum, a partially domesticated bird. From March through June. When the tree is in fruit, the bones of the bird must not be thrown to the dogs lest they poison the animals. Poisoning causes immediate and violent upset of the digestive tract, and a glassy-eyed stare and interference with muscular coordination, the latex is employed by the Tikunas to heal wounds; leaves a Malouetia - possibly this species - are added to ayahuasca by the Makuna. Kubeos, Puinaves, Tikunas paint the latex on wounds to hasten healing. It has been added to curare formulas; chemically unstudied.
