Habitat: in the understory on relatively dry moss-covererd substrate; forest w/high tree mortality possibly due to recent paludification
Associated Species: Tsuga heterophylla, Picea engelmannii, Pinus contorta, Pinus monticola, Cornus canadensis, Equisetum sylvaticum, Smilacina stellata, Aralia nudicaulis
Notes: dominant in some areas forming an almost solid ground cover
