Local on the extremely steep mid- portion of a 220-foot, south-facing slope above the west end of Vernon Lake. Occasional at the upper margin of a zone of open talus, below 60- to 90-foot basalt cliffs. Rooted amongst talus blocks mostly ~6-18 inches in diameter. Climbing over shrubs and small trees, to ~4 feet high. Full sun to partial shade of Populus tremuloides, Betula cordifolia, and Abies balsamea.
Associates include Rosa acicularis, Parthenocissus inserta, Toxicodendron rydbergii, Corylus cornuta, Celastrus scandens.
