Habitat: Local, scattered small patches on a small (20- to 50-foot tall) diabase cliff on mid-slope, ~180 feet above the lake. Shaded settings. Mostly in crevices and on narrow ledges; scattered additional plants below cliff on shaded talus and mossy outcrops. Beneath canopy of mature Betula papyrifera, Thuja occidentalis, Pinus strobus, Abies balsamea, and occasional Populus tremuloides.
Associated Species: Associates include Dryopteris fragrans, Polypodium virginianum, Woodsia ilvensis, Saxifraga virginiensis.
