Habitat:
Local on north- to east-facing, 40- to 100-foot cliffs on the lower to upper portions of a steep-sided, 120-foot bedrock knob. Occasional to common, forming small clumps on the lower to middle portions of the rather dry cliff. On thinly-bedded Rove Formation sedimentary bedrock (exposed variously as a narrow basal band to the entire lower half of the cliff) and on the overlying diabase. Partial shade.
Associated Species:
Associates include Agrostis scabra, Carex foenea, Woodsia ilvensis, Polypodium virginianum, Campanula rotundifolia, Rubus strigosus, Acer spicatum.
