Habitat:
Occasional to locally abundant at the southwestern end of the narrow, bedrock-entrenched basin that encompasses Cuckoo Lake. Forming rather dense carpets in the narrow semi-terrestrial ecotone between mud flats and a dense stand of Myrica gale at the upland margin. Moist organic silt amongst rocks and small boulders. Full sun most of the day.

Associates include Juncus brevicaudatus, Carex cryptolepis, Scirpus atrocinctus, Glyceria grandis, Dulichium arundinaceum, Muhlenbergia uniflora, Hypericum majus.
