Habitat:
Uncommon and local on the lower ledges of west-facing cliffs which form the upper portion of a steep ~350-foot slope above the west end of Watap Lake. Two loose patches (~30 plants) in rather dry, thin, organic soil (detritus) over diabase. Full shade to partial sun here where the cliff is 40-60 feet tall (it rises to 100+ feet northeast of here). Interrupted canopy of young Abies balsamea, Populus tremuloides, Picea glauca, and Thuja occidentalis.

Associates include Carex rugosperma, Poa glauca, Woodsia ilvensis, Cardamine parviflora, Heuchera richardsonii.
