Habitat: Uncommon on a large north-facing cliff on the upper portion of the steep 350-foot slope above the west end of Watap Lake. Scattered clumps on Rove Formation sedimentary rocks on the lower half of what is locally a 75-foot cliff (much taller to the west), none on upper cliff diabase. In thick mats of Hylocomium splendens, Pleurozium schreberi, and Polytrichum sp. Shaded by Thuja occidentalis and Betula papyrifera.
Associated Species: Associates include Huperzia selago, Polypodium virginianum, Gymnocarpium jessoense, Woodsia ilvensis, Trientalis borealis, Poa glauca, Sorbus decora.
